Our Worship

“Glorify God with Praise and Thanksgiving”

Worship is the center of our life together, a unifying experience for all ages
that inspires, renews, heals, and strengthens us.

In June, July and August we have two worship services: one at 8:30 a.m. in the Chapel and one at 9:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary.  Also at 9:30 a.m. there is Summer Sunday School for children in elementary school.

During the rest of the year we celebrate worship twice each Sunday morning at Westminster at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Childcare is available during both services.

While the feel and atmosphere of each service are slightly different, the scripture lesson and message are usually the same.
  • Our 8:30 a.m. service is held in the Chapel and seeks to foster a sense of warmth, intimacy and sharing within our community.  Music at this service is led by Liz and Duane Grabber through song and acoustic guitar.
  • Our 10:30 a.m. service is held in the Sanctuary and is a more traditional worship service.  Music is led by the adult Chancel Choir and organ, though other instrumentalists and singers, including Liz and Duane, will help to lead worship.
At either service you will find that Westminster is a warm, welcoming and caring faith community.  We are Biblically based and Christ centered, while challenging ourselves to care for others in the way God intends.

Church School and Adult Education classes are from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

Parishioners take a vital role in worship services through lay reading, children’s sermons, greeting, ushering, music and the arts. Worship is a way for us to proclaim the joy and mystery of our faith.

Westminster embraces its fine musical heritage with programs for all ages, including voice and handbell choirs for children and adults. Vocal scholarships are awarded to students enrolled in local colleges, who then participate in our adult choir. Instrumentalists regularly participate in our worship services in solo and ensemble performance.

Childcare is provided for children under 5 during the church school and worship hours. Children K-1st grade are invited to Kids' Korner (a Christian-based story and activity time) at 8:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

About the Chapel

Rose Window in Chapel
The ChapelAs you enter the chapel, your eyes are caught by the beautiful rose window, a memorial to children of the church who predeceased their parents.  A Memorial Book on the oak table in the nook at the back of the chapel contains the names of all the persons whose memories are honored by the window.

Hospitality Time
From September through May we have a Cafe with coffee and pastries available from 8:00 a.m. to noon; and a special room called The Gathering Place for a time of reading, relaxing and quiet conversation before and after our services.  Read about the Café in the news:  http://blogs.courant.com/susan_campbell/2008/10/coffee-and-church.html
